My very first mini photoshoot with some friends' adorable baby

I recently had a little mini photoshoot with some family friends of their cute little baby Knox.

The setup was quite simple, my canon t1i and 3 lenses used, a 50mm 1.4, 100mm 2.8L macro, and the new 15-85mm ef-s lens. Most of the shots that I ended up loving were taken with the 50mm including this one. A single 430 EXII speedlite bounced off of a large white piece of paper was used (thanks to my girlfriend for being my slave and getting flashed in the face countless times) and the pictures were all shot on a blanket of mine, one side black one side white and fluffy.

The photo I'd like some criticism on is included below. Overexposed? Is the slightly textured background okay? Too much catchlights in the eyes? Anything else?

I know there is numerous technical errors in each, but the parents absolutely adored them and were ecstatic about the photos so in the end that's what counts, right?

The exposure and lighting look fine! Compositionally I think it could be stronger by either a tighter crop or going out and seeing some arms and legs?

I looked at your flickr page and this photo was one of the best in the group. the lighting, background, catch lights, and skin tone all look great to me. Very good job.

Thanks for the kind words I tried to pick one of my better ones because I wanted to see if even though I thought it was good there may be some things the pros here could improve upon.

I had some other pictures that included his arms and legs but BOY was he pissed off that we were trying to take his picture at this time haha so it wasn't the easiest to get them done

I'll just keep on practicing though, I put these up on facebook and have had lots of friends/family asking me to take pictures of children/themselves so that's compliment enough for me
