Default Sides of face

SIDES OF FACE

Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: 70-300VR
Exposure: 0.02 sec (1/50)
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 165 mm
ISO Speed: 3200
Exposure Bias: +1/3 EV

Been to my hometown last week. While chatting with my family members, this wise man from neighbor house, stepped into and joined the conversation. While sitting inside the house where the light source was from the door and lit only models left surface. I picked my camera as I liked the play of light, lines of experience in his face. Since light was very low, I raised ISO to 3200 and +1/3 EV to get little more details on right side of his face.

Please share your thoughts, does the lighting bothers you.. what's your thought about adding a reflector to model's right side... And also share your views on sharpness.

I like it. I kind of like the contrast in lighting, maybe a bit more on the right side would have been ideal but in the situation it sounds like you did what you could. Hard to evaluate sharpness with the photo we can view being this small, but it does look resonably sharp from what I can see and the high iso didn't seem to create any overlydistracting noise. I probably would have cropped it to be a more traditional-sized vertical profile shot (3:2 ratio) but I seem to get crop happy at times.

Very nice shot

The lighting is fine. Strong lighting emphasizes the strong personality, the years of life lived. It is not very flattering but it does convey the mood. If you wanted to soften that some then you could add a reflector...that would certainly change the feel of the image
