I have no problem with the vintage look. It is a popular style--especially with babies--for a reason. However, you mentioned you want to create a style of your own so you might look fr other things.
With that said, I like this picture a lot. The only thing is the sheen coming off the baby's skin. That makes the baby look, well, almost slimy. Obviously, it's because he/she is wet. Just not sure how to overcome that personally. |

thank you for your reply. i have seen pics of babies in washtubs but they're in an empty one usually. i thought i would make it a little different by adding real water and bubbles and him really be wet. but i see what your saying about him looking slimy lol. funny i hadn't thought of it that way, but now I am thinking maybe should have kept him dry? hmmm....
thanks for your reply...i really appreciate constructive criticism !

I would think the black vignette would probably look great! Maybe next time have the baby looking into the camera as well... I have found that most moms want to see their babies eyes. I love the baby in the wash tub though, its kinds like brick walls, its been done and done again.. but everyone loves it so you do it anyway! LOL!

Cute! I'm not a fan of vignetting, personally, whether light or dark. I think the vintage processing works well - it goes with the old-fashioned washtub - but I'd love to see it without the vignette. The eye is naturally drawn to lighter parts of photos, and I find my eyes going straight to the lightened corners.
My only nitpick is the baby doesn't look all that happy to be there. But that's just me.

yes susan i do agree with vignetting too lol. i usually stay away from it in general. I actually have a version without it. what you think? also the baby was very serious the whole shoot...which with four kids of my own thought i knew how to get any baby to laugh lol. but i only got 3 smiles the whole shoot lol. luckily one turned out great of him standing...phhhewww.
Thanks for your advice...i love your work!

MUCH better w/out the vignette! My eyes go straight to his. I hear ya, little ones are so hard to shoot, and when babies get in that serious mood, they're usually pretty well set that way, LOL.
Thanks so much for the compliment, sweet of you to say! |

Seriously Susan I sometimes since joining this site a little over a month ago was overwhelmed with all the decisions and settings etc in photography. this site is amazing and has helped me tremendously home down my own personal taste. I actually find myself saying when I am editing my pics..."okay what would Susan Say, or LeeR, or Benji, etc...too many great photographers on here to list lol" I am grateful for all the criticism...bad, good, or even ugly
