Default My first portrait of my gf

I am fairly new to photography. I was just messing around with my new camera and I really love this shot because of my gf's expression. I didn't even know that my iso was that high. I'd appreciate any feedback on how to improve. Thanks.

Love the little crinkly nose! Cute expression.

Did you mean for the picture to be so yellow, or is your white balance really off?

No i didnt mean for it to be so yellow. The lamp light probably through the white balance off. How do i correct that? I heard about focusing on a white sheet of paper first or something like that.

Most post-processing software has the ability to correct white balance issues. I personally used Aperture 3, and selected a part that should have been white. It took a couple clicks to get the right place, but it corrected fairly easily. I'm guessing you took this in a yellow room and the light bouncing off the walls gave it such a distinct yellow cast. Yes, to get the white balance correct out of camera, your camera should have a setting to custom set white balance.

If you didn't shoot in RAW, fixing the white balance is harder. If you did then you can adjust the white balance on the RAW file and re-export to JPG.

For next time, you want to get the white balance better before you snap the picture. Use the Tunsten setting or read you manual about how to set the custom white balance.

Here's a thread that'll help you out understanding white balance:
