Default Baby Bella

Just set up my Alien Bee 800 and did a few test shots on my newborn, Bella... Could you please let me know if I am "on it" or not so much? This shot is the one I was personally happiest with and hope that I am critiquing myself accurately.

Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Thank you!

What a lovely little girl and wonderful photo. It looks as if the top eye is a bit more in focus than the other, but I love the photo and can keep looking at it. I think the light is soft and pretty and the photo just says "aaahhh" I am completely new, so others might have some tech-stuff to say, but I feel the photo speaks to me and evokes emotions especially because of those huge eyes (And isn't that the purpose of photography?)

I am not too keen on those "pro" photoshoots, where the baby is propped up in front of a fake sky background and surrounded by props. This is really pure and sweet and congrats on the little angel. Have a 5 month old boy myself and he is probably the most photographed baby on earth - great luck he is pretty..LOL

Totally adorable. Those eyes are amazing and they are definately the focus of the picture.

Is the background white? It looks pinkish. (it doesn't bother me, it kind of works with this picture). Just wondering because that might suggest your lighting is off. Her back hand seems a little out of focus. (I'm sure she moved right when you were pressing the button).

Overall, I think it's a good picture. (jmo take it for what it's worth)

It's so hard for everything to come together @ one time, isn't it?!

I absolutely love the color. It's soft and rich and so real looking. The background does look a little pinkish, as Christine mentions, but I think it all works. Of course, your daughter is perfect so I'm not sure you could get a bad shot!

I would print this and frame it if I were you. It's absolutely precious.

now that i'm looking at this at home on the home monitor - I really like the baby skin tone. I wasn't sure about it before - guess that will learn me to use the good monitor when looking at that. I'd say frame it

She is precious! I'm in love with her hair and that bow on her head

Great photo too - baby portraits are hard!

Her skin tone is perfect - the blanket is pinkish I agree but I like it - it adds softness to this photo.

My only critique would be her left eye being slightly out of focus. . .thought it's still a great photo and any parent would love to have it! I'm not going to chime in with too much technical stuff (as a self proclaimed amateur I bow to the pros!) but I would try a stop or two smaller aperture for next time? I could be wrong but that would give you that shallow DOF you want in a photo like this but still be deep enough to get both of her doughy little baby eyes in focus.

Take ^ ^ ^ that with a grain of salt. . .I'm still learning too. Cheers!
