Default self portrait@@@@@@@@@

Hi i would like some critique on the exposure and lighting of this pic.I used an on camera flash unit with +1 compensation ETTL does it look a bit flat? any other critique would be helpful many thanks.

I like the original, but I like the edit, especially with the blurred background and color, better....

My only problem is you don't look very happy....maybe just a HINT of a smile next time....perhaps you were going for a more serious look?

I have taken a bit of a different approach. the first thing I noticed was that the levels appeared wrong so I made some adjustments there. Then some burning and dodging to accentuate what is actually pretty good light. Finally, I worked on the eyes a bit. The catchlights were almost non-existent in the first image so I created some. I found that the brighter the lights in the eyes, the less the expression had that 'mean' look.

Thinking the last edit makes him look like he's host to an alien. Liked the eyes as they were. Obviously IMHO.

I do like the blurred bg more and the warmer skin tones compared to mine. Also that is my winning smile i thought you could see the twinkle in my eyes hehe.
