Default a day at the beach (ie, in bright sunlight)

hi guys, im very much new here but have been lurking for awhile I've recently got myself a d90 and learning the ropes to take better photos. The most challenging obstacle that i've come across so far is taking a good photo in bright sunlight. I can't seem to get the right exposure.

with this photo i think i did well but i am wanting to know what do you guys think? What can be improved?

Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1250)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 320

TIA!

Hi! Welcome!
Very nice first post!
The reason direct bright sun is so difficult is because it sux as a light source. Its harsh, creates wicked shadows, makes your models squint. It will own you.

I agree - direct sunlight is a very difficult source of lighting because of the harsh shadows.

Also, I find the Gatorade bottle really distracting.

Thank you for the comments so far! I couldn't help it with the gatorade bottle so maybe think of it as a gatorade ad lol. Do you guys reckon that the photo is a little overexposed?
