Default New and Need advice

I have been taking pictures with a DSLR only for a few months and really want to do portraits. I have no one to model for me for another few weeks so I borrowed my friend, and I would like some help on how I could be better. Another friend of mine told me the pics look like myspace pics, nothing special. So I would like some advice, please?

...

I really would love critique and advice because Portraits is what I want to do the most. thank you so much in advance

Not only too big but you should also only present one for critique and give us some information about the camera and settings used. Because of where they are hosted they don't seem to respond so well to the normal resizing technique, so could you produce a version of one of them that is no more than 740px on the longest side and post it to pick up the discussion.

Thanks,

Wulf
