Talking First Tripod Photo

I'm semi new to the world of photography. Everything I know has been self taught through google and photography websites and books. I finally got myself a tripod two days ago. I don't know how I took decent photos without it!

I do have a semi-shoddy camera, but I think that you don't always have to have an ungodly expensive one to get good photos.

Here is my first self-portrait with a camera tripod. Maybe I should have gotten the full couch in the photo...
I never can seem to get any, so feedback is greatly appreciated.

Make: Canon
Model: Canon PowerShot SX120 IS
Shutter Speed: 1/4 second
Aperture: F/2.8
Focal Length: 6 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Ha. I have dark hair.
It blends in with the couch. Fantastic!

Very creative. However, I think it will look more balance with a smoother body curve if you extended your legs out more.

Jennifer, take the shot again, but this time stretch yourself out so that we can see your body fully extended...and your head with or without your dark hair is really not there at all. Also, not crazy about your signature...the attention should be on the photo, and not the signature, especially in red which draws your eye right to it. As far as I'm concerned, signatures and copyrights should be subtle, and not be dominant.

The only thing this image needs is to be cropped. One of the first and best lessons you should learn is how to crop out everything that is not asolutely necessary from your image. It's painful at first, but eventually you will learn to do most of your cropping in the camera. Until then, crop 'til it hurts and see if you don't get better images.
