Default A successful accident?

I sent some pictures of my kids around to the family and threw this one in just because I don't have a lot of pictures of my son right now. He is at the age where he doesn't hold still for pictures very well knowing he's about to appear on the back of the camera. (Would rather see his picture than let me take his picture.) I didn't really like it but had no better options. The only other photographer in the family commented that this was her favorite shot out of the bunch so now I'm wondering if I misjudged it. Do you think the placement of the swing support works or is it too distracting? It was a complete accident to have it in front of his face and "circle" his eye like that, and the main reason I didn't want to include it. Any general critique or retouch and repost to this thread is welcome as well.

It is a lovely capture but for me, no matter how somebody spins it, the swing frame over his face is a not good. The red pole disecting his head isn't good either. It is too bad because I think he is a super-cutie and that soft light on his skin is gorgeous!

{Sigh} So my first instinct was correct. I was secretly hoping it might warrant some "artsy" label, but I guess it's destined for the trash bin.

Hold on - it's your memory! Even if it might not be a technically perfect - it does not diminish how much it means to you...or to your son in years to come when it looks back at that time on the swing. Even though it might not make the cut in your porfolio it doesn't mean it doesn't make it into the family album

I wouldn't trash it, it is still a very cute picture of your son and is in focus with good lighting. It may not make a good portrait if someone was paying you, because of the things Bruce mentioned, but you can still keep it for yourself! But yes, it seems like you have good instincts, keep at it!

Well, I guess I wouldn't actually trash it, because I know Grandma would love it no matter what. But portfolio is definitely not where it will end up.... Maybe family album.
