Birth announcement option

I am going to make a birth announcement of my daughter. This picture was taken in RAW and then converted into B&W. Could some one please comment on the color. Does this look like a good contrast, good color picture. If not, because my eye is not really trained to what is a good black and white, could you give me some pointers in how i can get a better B&W in photo shop

To me, it's very bland. The whites need to be whiter and the blacks a little darker. There are a multitude of ways that individuals do their conversions, here's a few different methods and you can see which, if any, work best for you.
