Default Engagement

Taken March 20th, 2010.
Of my , newly engaged, friends.
We planned on taking more but the weather didn't permit it so I left with just this photo to be proud of.

The Editing is to focus more around their hands and the ring.

Nikon D40
ISO 200

It's really sweet, but I think a tad heavy on the vignette.

Well, it' leads the eye right to the ring, and since that was the goal I assume, you achieved it.

On the other hand, do not let bad weather to spoil the fun... They are in love, let them get wet and capture the moment... but have the towels near, no one wants to get cold. Or even better, get inside and use window light and a reflector (make it yourself if you don't have one, there are tutorials on the internet...)

The ring looks cool. A lot of people will complain about selective coloring but it looks nice here. Way too heavy on the vignette though, it is distracting to me. Maybe add a bit of gaussian blur instead.

Wow, her ring is neon yellow and the diamond and band are both fake?

Sorry, that's just what it screams to me. But, congrats to your friend. I'm sure the ring is much prettier in person. Just not wild about the processing at all, including the heavy vignette. Sorry if this sounds harsh to you, but I just don't like it.

I would love to see it without the vignette. I am usually not a fan of selective coloring, but it might work here. I am just too distracted by the vignette.

I don't get it. Maybe I'm old fashioned but if this were my daughter and someone said they had heard she was engaged, I sure wouldn't take my wallet out and show them this image. On second thought I may if I was ashamed of the way the guy looked! I would wqant to see the faces AND the ring. I'm under the impression that an engagement is all about two people AND a ring. IMHO this image is all about a ring and two faceless and nameless people that very easily could be a shot of about 50% of the people in the world. This shot would be great to hang in a jewelry shop, but not framed on my desk at work.

its a great shot and very clear, but i agree with everyone else here... too much vignetting

i love the use of the selective color on this one

I'm sorry but I'd like to say here that this is just flat out wrong. It's always nice to have variety in your photoshoots. I'm sure this isn't the ONLY image they have. And I'm sure this isn't an image anyone would put in their wallet. This is something I can totally see the married couple framing in their house on the counter or wall, for themselves.

As for the picture, I agree it's too heavy on processing. I like the selective coloring but the vignette is too harsh, my eyes focus more on the black then anything else. I would of blurred the surrounding instead and I think it would look much nicer.

And yes I do realize he said he only took one, but I'm sure that isn't going to be the picture they're going to have for their marriage.
