Default too tight?

took this tonight, and while I like it, I'm wondering if others would frame it differently or give it more DOF. Also, this is SOOC, any ideas for PP?

I agree the coloring is off and too much. This would make a strong candidate for a black and white!

This is actually the color of his skin, and my white balance was very carefully calibrated. But, as per suggestion, here it is in black and white

why? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I would really like to know why the black and white is a better shot.

Well, it just fits the mood of the shot better in my opinion. The first does look red, and it doesn't look like just his skin - it looks like a red cast is over it. Maybe it isn't, but since it is so close up, it is hard to tell. Also, there are strong shadows on his face, particularly under his glasses. I like the contrast of the black and white one. It is your picture though, so use what you like.
