My first portrait

Totally new to this, wanted to get some opinions. What do you think of subject not looking at camera? I thought it gave a kind of candid feel to the picture. Also, you can see a reflection of the flash, I thought the positioning of it added something to the shot? How would I be able to avoid a reflection like that in the future? Thanks.

I love the contrast of the red background and I think the 'looking-away' smile is cute.

The flash reflection is really distracting to me, though. I'm still figuring all of this out, too, but I think you could cut down on this by diffusing your light source (whether it's a flash, window, etc.) or moving your subject to a different position where there is more light so that you don't have to use a flash (maybe outside??)

The other thing bothering me here is the composition. The focal point here is her face, but it gets a bit lost in the bright background when zoomed out like this. I would crop in a lot closer, or retake the picture so that her face fills the frame better.
