Default My baby

Hi there,

I am completely in love with our new baby and so I keep shooting as many pictures of him as possible. I tried black and white earlier on a black background, but was told, that it was too harsh... What do you think about this? Is the focus too soft? How about composition?
Thanks for your imput!

Sabina

awww very cute!
the image looks a little under exposed so maybe you can make it a little brighter in post. It is a little noisy too but that maybe jsut a function of the compression used when resizing it to post here.

Yeah, it's definitely underexposed. Also, the white corners are really distracting. At ISO 1600 there's a lot of noise going on.

Try putting your baby near a window with indirect natural light coming in (not direct sun streaming in). Place him at a 45 degree angle towards the window and use something for reflection on the opposite side (if you don't have a reflector, you can simply use a piece of white posterboard). You'll get lovely light and you can lower your ISO and up your shutter speed. Don't use the popup flash - it's too harsh and flat.

What a cutie! Congratulations on your new baby boy.

Thank you for the tips, I will try next time to get more light and use a reflector.

I agree with Susan's post but wanted to add that it looks like the baby is straining...his face is red and you can see the strain in his chin. As a mother I have seen this look before....and I bet a diaper change followed this photo! I would make sure he is peacefully sleeping or nice and content awake.

Sweet baby!

Get more light so you don't have to use ISO 1600, that is very high. I like to use 200 at most. Can your camera go wider than f/5.0? That would help with the light a lot.
