Default Too Much Light?

Okay so I am working with my flash and learning how to bounce it off walls/ceilings. Do you think this picture is too light? His room is already well lit, but I am thinking that I used too much flash?

I think it is to bright and washed out myself. Try closing the Aperture down to 5.6 or so and see how that works for you.
When working with Flash shutter speed controls ambient light and aperture controls amount of flash. So if you go to 4.8 or 5.6 to tone down the flash and then adjust shutter speed to control the existing light you should be able to dial it in.

doesn't look too bright to me. There are still details in the highlights on his face so it looks pretty good as far as the lighting goes.

Yup, overexposed. The brightest highlight on his skin SHOULD have an "R" reading in Photoshop of 240. It reads 255. (I took the reading on bright spot near the tip of his nose.)
