I'm a bit confused as I've tried to post this to get a critique and my posts don't ever seem to show up..so I'm trying one more time. This is my first time using window lighting for portrait shots. Here is what I used:
Camera FinePix S5700 S700 Exposure 1/200 sec ISO 200 Aperture f/4.0 Focal Length 1430mm00 I'd love to hear opinions and critiques on technique..what are the strongest points? Weaker points? Skills to work on as a photographer? Suggestions...I'm open for it all! I also have a Snapixel account with other shots from this session I'm including a link: dannidoom Photos - Snapixel Thank you all (hopefully this works this time!) |

There are some blown highlights in the image. I like the feel overall but it would be better if you brought the exposure down a bit to control the highlights then added a reflector to retain the hint of detail in the shadows.
Also the pose feels like she is trying to show off the inside of her nose. not very flattering. Lastly the 14.3mm focal length means that you were fairly close to the subject which means that the perspective is not very flattering for human subjects. Try backing away and zooming in, it will make the nose and forehead of the subject look smaller

first off...welcome.
very nice first post. i kinda like this shot although I won't disagree with the critiques from Rex and hibou. There are a few things to tweak but I dig the overall feel of confidence on the lit side vs the mystery on the dark. Looking forward to more. |
