shot w/ nikon d3000, i think iso 100. f1.8 35mm
is this too bright? i don't know what i'm doing!

you do have some areas of the photo that are blown out and quite distracting. forehead, nose, chest etc. also the subject looks to be squinting.

Well, you knew it was too bright, so you know something. Shooting in direct sunlight is HARD. To start, try finding shaded areas or shoot on overcast days. Then when you get good with that you can try harder stuff. Keep at it!
