Default My second attempt at a portrait

Hey everyone,

This is my second attempt at a portrait and I shot this on a recent trip to an island in Thailand.

EXIF info
Camera - Canon EOS Kiss X2
300 mm
f/5.6
1/800 sec
ISO 200

What I want critique on is the composition of the picture. Is the sand at the bottom distracting? Does it need to be cropped? Thanks in advance!

Honestly, I don't think this is a portrait....not trying to be mean at all, JMO.

Thanks for the ideas LoveDSLR...

I agree Cherrygirl. I dont think this is a portrait in the literal sense but didnt how else to classify it. Thanks for your comment though. No offence taken
