Default Just starting out...Father/ son portrait

Hi everybody!

I'm just starting out in photography. I took this picture of my husband and son a few weeks ago. I was wondering if I "got it right". Is my focus correct? What about composition? Exposure? Also, do you think the PP is too much? I wanted to give the photo a warmer look because the original had a cool feel to it. I would appreciate ANY critiques/ advice that you have to offer! Thanks!

Alyssa

focus looks great to me. i enjoy the composition but others might not. exposure is good. i love warm pics for kids cold ones just dont look right to me. it almost looks a bit sepia thou but i like it. only thing for me is they are both looking in different directions and i woulda used a slightly bigger fstop like 5.6 or 4.5 somewhere in there or so just to blur the trees a wee bit more cause half of them are in a bit of focus and some are way out and some almost.

If I were to take this shot again I would definitely try a different f-stop. The trees are distracting. I appreciate your ideas- thanks!

i would say the angle is a bit much, but otherwise it's an awesome shot ;P i'm loving the focus, loving the facial expressions, etc.

I like the exposure and the warm feel of it. I agree with opening your aperture up a bit.

And this may just be me... but that bright sunlight spot on dad's stomach seems very distracting. It draws my eyes right to it like a tractor beam. I'd try maybe turning dad a bit towards the camera/you and then turn his head off to the side to retain that same exposure on the side of his face that's making him pop like that in order to get rid of that belly light.

Maybe it's just me though haha. Otherwise nice picture
