Default Sleeping toddler

They're all angels when they're asleep, aren't they?!

SS: 1/4
f/3.5
ISO: 1600
Focal length: 18mm

It's quite dark in their room while they are sleeping - hence the high ISO. Camera was set on "Av"

Not really after any specific critique - just any CC that anyone wants to offer really. I'd rather put them in here rather than in the SYS section where people can't give CC. The only way I'm going to learn is to hear peoples suggestions as to how to make a shot better!

Just realised I put the wrong photo up - this is the better one of the 2.... eyelashes are a bit more in focus!

I think its a sweet photo. Love to take pics of my kids sleeping... I think the colour is a bit off so id do a color balance. Also you might want to clone out the little mark on the arm.

Personally i find that the bars from the cot are rather distracting as my eyes tend to focus on those. Try and clone them out. Should be relatively easy.

You might want to have a little play with contrast and brightness, blur the blanket a bit and add some sharpening.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that! Unfortunately the only thing I can do in PS at the moment is crop LOL! I wouldn't have a clue how to clone or sharpen etc.. hehe..... Would I do a colour balance on the computer or is it a camera issue? It's a brand new camera.....

Hi AJ,

Here is a very quick retouch...

1. contrast and brightness
2. color balance
3. levels
4. clone bars out
5. blur the background with blur tool
6. clone the spot on his arm
7. blur his skin lightly for skin softening
8. add a spotlight for vignette
9. add a smart sharp

Most likely the color balance is a bit off because of lighting.

Hope you like it.

As for pp i use Photoshop. Are plenty of on-line tutorials that will help you get your head around it.

Im glad you liked it.

With Ps just play around with it. Done be scared of the program. As long as you play on a copy of your photo, not the original, no dramas can happen. It is a massive program that can be daunting. Just watch some tutorials or get some magazines dedicated to photoshop and you'll find your way around it pretty soon.

Good luck!
