Hi everyone, I'm a newbie. posted an introduction and now I suppose I'll post a photo. Lots of critique/CC welcome.
![]() ![]() I feel his hair got lost in the background. I didn't want to adjust my curves TOO much, because his shirt "disappeared". I do have another copy where the scratch on his forehead has been photoshopped out. Thanks in advance for advice! |

What focal length did you use for this shot? It looks just a little too "short" for me. Your lighting is OK (looks like window light, from the shadows and the catchlights in the eyes), and it's a bit soft, but that's "OK" (just). Also, the separation of the hair from the background is fine, no worries there. I think a few more mm. on the focal length would be better -- the face is just a bit too "round" (although it does really draw out those eyes...). Something in the 75 - 105 mm. (35 mm equivalent) would probably look a little better.
With all that, the image is a good one... Keep up the good work! |

now i'm confused because 1 reply said I need it to be more 'soft'... the 2nd reply said it's TOO soft.
I did go back in and do the soft light, i'll post that one up as soon as i'm back at my home computer. The lighting... we were out on the back patio. I put up a black backdrop and started snapping. I prefer natural light.
