Default Young Nephew

Ok.. so I finally bought my first "grown up" lens a sigma 70-200 ex dg apo HSM II. Just getting the feel of it, I was totally shocked at the size and weight difference. Anyway, my nephew was over and I had just recieved the lens so I was playing around with it.

So I have two questions;

1. Sharpness - Do you think I I should set the exp to 4 and bump the wb to 1600 or left it at 2.8 and bumped up the wb.

2. I'm not sure about the color. I dropped the red a little but I'm still not sure if the color is right. The lighting, was flourescent, from the bottom of the staircase, and incandescent from above.

Oh what a cute little boy!
I totally get confusing lighting situations.

I see what you mean about the color, it is at little warm-yellowish.

I might be having a blonde day here, so I am confused. Did you mean to bump the ISO to 1600? You could play around with your White Balance settings, there are modes for incandescent and fluorescent.Auto, which your camera is on does a decent job *most* if the time but gets sketchy in completely artificial lighting and needs more help from you.
Regarding the sharpness of the photo, you needed a higher shutter speed. 1/15 of a second is really hard to do hand held esp. with a lens the size of the sigma, my guess is too much camera shake combined with too slow of a shutter speed is why its not as sharp as you would like.

Agree with PS - that shutter speed is going to be very difficult to get a sharp image. I am actually impressed that it's as sharp as it is as shutter speed. You were at your max aperture so the only way to speed up your shutter speed and still properly expose the photo would have been to bump up your ISO or use the flash.

As for the color, it is pretty yellow, but a simple adjustment in either Photoshop, Lightroom, or Picasa can take care of that. I attached my quick attempt - the mixed lighting does make it a bit tricky.

Alas, you are not having a blonde moment, I was apparently having a semi senior moment
as yes I meant ISO 1600.

Irish.. thanks.. that does look better. Would I be correct in assuming the yellowness is coming from the incandescent?

Irish.. just curious how you cleaned up the yellowness? I actually uses PSP X2 and I'm still working on my post processing skills.

I did a curves adjustment layer using the "auto" setting and it still looked a bit yellow, so I did an additional adjustment layer with color balance and slid the yellow/blue adjustment toward the blue (can't remember the exact amount). I also think I dodged the eyes a bit to lighten them.
