Default First time shooting in the snow.

Never taken pictures in the falling snow before. Mostly because I always seem to be working during a snowfall. Well decided to take my camera to work and dragged my shy coworker out with me in the middle of a blizzard. She likes them, what do you think?

Per the http://digital-photography-school.co...rum-rules.html, is there something specific that you would like critique on? Asking specifically for critique affords members a starting point and also aids in your learning of photography in such that it allows you to start to really see your image.

Sorry. I didn't thoroughly read the rules first I admit. I guess what I want to know is does it catch your eye? If you walked past a gallery and saw this picture would you stop and look at it? Does it have impact? Essentially did I do a good job? Is there something I could have done differently?

I like the effect you got here. The snow in the background that's washed out really works for me. What did you use for your post processing?

I'm no pro... just like looking at pictures... To me you need some darker backgrounds so the falling snow shows up more. Otherwise, its all kinda washed out.

I'm also guessing we're missing a great smile behind that scarf...

Just my two cents.

The processing works for me and the feeling of the image. I see what you were going for and it works.A nice soft glow and a dreamy feeling.

The branches on the top are distracting and so are the trees coming out of her head.

What it all comes down to is are you happy with the effect achieved by the blown out background or not? You can see by the mixed reactions in the comments so far that it could go either way. Personally I agree with EOBeav in giving merit to the effect used that washes out the background. IMHO this is a decent photo, but it could have been better if a few of the distractions were removed like the twigs on the top of the frame and that odd dark line that meets with the model's hand. It also would have been a bit more captivating if the black coat were not so textureless.

I'm just an amateur so take my opinion fwiw. I like the overall picture, composition and pp. The one thing that does bother me is her right cheek, it looks odd almost swollen. I'm guessing it is a result of her smiling and the cheek getting framed by her hair and sweater.

I made a few changes with this photo after your critic. I never even noticed the twigs in the top of the shot before. As for an odd dark line I admit i'm still missing that. Oh and I gave the coat back the texture it lost when I added the gradient maps and blur effects.

Thanks for the advice.
