I did a photoshoot with my friend the other day and we wanted to do it at sunset. Turns out the day we were doing it the clouds were covering the sun at sunset, so it was darker than we hoped for. My ISO was way up to try and catch all the light I could without blurring the image and having to use flash. Because of this some of the pictures were super grainy, so since those ones were taken on a train track, I decided to try and give them a more old school look.
Editing: B&W, Warm photo filter, added noise Critique: Feel of photo, composition, anything else that tickles your fancy (or doesn't!) Camera: CANON REBEL T1i Shutter: 1/80 Aperture: f/5.0 ISO: 3200 Flash: Off, did not fire |

Compositionally, I think it's great, and I really like the tones. However, the grainy look here isn't working for me. I'm into the old school, trashed-up look also, but to me the grain is distracting. If it were done a little more subtly, I might buy into it.
I also get frustrated with lighting situations. I'm supposed to do a couple of portrait shoots later today. It was supposed to be cloudy all day, but now I'm looking outside at bright sunshine! Hopefully we'll get some decent cloud cover later this afternoon though. That's the challenge about outdoor portrait photography, though. You have to make the best of the situation you're given.

I love how the railroad curves. It would have been very cool to have her stand a little to the right to get more of the curve to frame her in the shot.
I love the grainy look of the far away shot, but the upclose, its almost too grainy. Almost takes away from her. For this one, maybe you could have lowered the ISO andslowed down the shutter speed, or used flash as fill light and set the white balance to cloudy to give it a warmer tone with the flash... may have turned out nice... we will never know
