Default Using natural light

Ok, so this is a photo of my mom and I didn't use my flash with it. I'm trying to learn how to shoot using natural light and using the golden rule. So is this picture done correctly using natural light? I have a Canon Rebel T1i 500D just so everyone will know. I used a Tamron AF75-300mm lens (i don't have a Canon lens yet Anyways, someone told me I had to post the EXIF (i think that's it) but I have no idea what that is, so any help on telling me that is will be greatly apprecaited

On your flickr page, if you look where it shows taken with canon.... etc, it has a clickable field marked "more properties". It shows a ton of data. I cut and pasted the "important stuff" below

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 70 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

The lens flare (just above your mom's head) tells me you are shooting into the sun. This can work for you. Pros call it "rim lighting" because it creates a bright edge around your subject. However, it also means that the rest of your subject is in shadow. That means you need either flash or reflectors to provide fill. Either would have worked.

yup..that lens flare also jacked with your saturation and washed out the colors. You can bring some of that back in post processing but theres a chance some of the 'fog' won't go away. Compositionally, you could have gotten closer. The extra space above your mom isn't really adding much. You might want to try giving it a crop and seeing if it doesn't work better. So good job, keep at it and have fun!

Agreed - also, her feet are chopped off - watch for limb chops. Keep shooting!
