Default First attempt at portraits

I got my friend Amanda to model for my first attempt at portrait photography. I used snow as the background, although I have been told that white is not the most flattering of backgrounds?
Please kindly advise and let me know what I could be improving as she looks rather "flat"
Thank you

Amanda

Not sure what settings you used but it is underexposed. Also, the "dead on" angle isn't doing much for me. As for the white background, it isn't bad if you know how to use it, and that takes experience.

Keep shooting!

If you could post your EXIF, we can better help you out how to get your exposure correct next time around.

As the previous poster said, it is definitely underexposed, but viewed large it appears your focus is pretty good!

Hi there

It seams there is alot of shaddow on the left hand side of the image, without knowing your EXIF data i would say one quick solution would be to have a reflector located on the left hand side to push some of that light back onto your subject. please post your data so we can help you out more :-)

white, I find to be the hardest back ground to use of plain colours (or at least of the main black or white).

It can be flattering if used correctly, and can really add to the over exposer of the entire project.
