Default Pentax K2000 / K-M

What is with the K2000 Pentax recently released? In some ways it is better (ISO 3200, faster burst shooting) but in others it isn't as good (no weather proofing). What exactly is Pentax trying to do here? Is the K2000 supposed to more high end than the K200D or less?

It's supposed to be their newest entry level model using their latest technology but without features for "enthusiasts". It's supposed to compete with the low budget models from Canon and Nikon, not so much with other Pentax offerings.

It makes sense that they would try to do that, but if the K200D is kind of going to be their "middle" model. Why did they make the K2000 be better than the K200D in some ways? Like the ability to go to ISO 3200 and a faster burst shooting speed? Or is the K2000 supposed to replace the K200D?

Because they could do so without raising costs. I haven't seen the tests yet, but unless they've got a new sensor in that body (and I don't believe they do) ISO3200 is going to be pretty muddy. I'm not sure about the FPS increase, but it's not a huge jump and the buffer is still tiny so it's not a massive leap forward.

It's definitely being prepped to be their low-budget model, but with K200D prices sitting right around the MRSP of the K-m, I don't have any idea how they plan to sell any of the new bodies. Here's hoping it sells like mad anyways and gives Pentax enough cash to throw the 645D back into the R&D department .

Yep, I just find the whole thing to be very confusing. Pentax should have done more to separate the two models.
