Default Pentax K100D Super In-Camera Settings

I've been using the Pentax K100D Super for about two months now. I love the camera, but I'm wondering how I can get a little more out of it. I would like to play a little with the Saturation, Sharpness and Contrast settings, but first I was wondering what other users have done with these settings.

Have you changed your in-camera settings (for the better), and if so what have you changed them to?

i leave all of my setting on my dslr on 0 or normal. i shoot in raw. then i have the freedom in post production to adjust more or less than normal according to the shot including changing to black and white. i want full control of the pic afterwards and not be limited before i get back to the computer. also photoshop/lightroom/aperture for apple/photoshop elements/ or the program that came with your camera will do a better job adjusting all aspects of the shot than your camera a capable of. i hope this helps. also it would do good to invest into something like aperture or lightroom or even elements if you plan on doing alot of shooting. file management will become an issue in the near future. both aperture and lightroom work nondestructively to the raw file. good luck.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Always always always shoot RAW and customize the settings you're now considering after the fact. Chances are every image will need slightly different settings to tickle your fancy the most.

If you absolutely must shoot JPEG for a non-silly reason (I can't think of any offhand, give me some time) and can't process afterwards, I believe you'd want to push the sharpness to +1 or +2 and the contrast to +1, as the firmware tends to be fairly conservative with its sharpening and contrast application.

Speed, for one.

I'm assuming that the K100 isn't significantly different than the K110 in terms of write speed. The K110 can get off a three shot burst in RAW and then starts to chug, which is okay most of the time, but certainly not always okay. The lower the initial settings, the bigger the burst, which occasionally matters. For example, when your model seems to have a frigging SIXTH SENSE FOR THE SHUTTER AND BLINKS OR STOPS SMILING EVERY GOSH DARN TIME GRRRRRR.

But I'm not bitter.

Thanks for the tips. I've tried pushing the contrast and sharpness up a bit. I'm looking forward to seeing what the results are like.
