I'm fairly new to the world of flash units and being an amatuer, price is a major consideration. I notice Pentax Flash units all boast PTTL, I gues this is a pre flash that helps with setting the correct flash settings? Anyway I was looking at the best Flash unit Sigma makes, EF-610 DG Super , and price wise it looks pretty good , function wise pretty good, but alot of what i'm reading, I'll be honest ,I don't yet understand. Should I spend the extra and get the Pentax or Buy Sigma or any other brand for that matter? Any advice is welcome. I just don't want to have to buy again when I figure it all out. Thanks Cecil.

I would actually recommend the Metz 50 af-1. The metal hotshoe is a nice touch and packs more features at less price than the comparable pentax models. The pentax models are a little old and need replacing.

Seconded. There's also another new model, the Metz 44 AF-1, which isn't (as far as I know) available yet in the US but should be in a matter of months. This has a little less power than the 50 AF-1 (about a third less power — they're still really in the same ballpark) and a few less features (for instance, it has a plastic shoe). The price should come in reasonably lower, though, making it a nice option for many people.
