Default New to Group...Is my Camera Sufficient

I am just getting into digital photography as a hobby (as opposed to making money), and I chose a PENTAX X90 as my first camera.

I am stuck with it for now (paid $275), but when I get ready to upgrade, does anyone have a suggestion. Here are the specs on the PENTAX X90 if you don't know much about. It's a bit more complicated than a point-and-shoot.

I hope I learn how to use all of the settings to take the perfect picture (if there is such a thing).

I am sure you will have all kinds of advise on what to get as far as upgrades. I swing towards nikon - i have had and used others, but they just don't have the durability for my needs. NOTE ---> This is just my thoughts on type.

the main thing to remember is: camera. subject. light. capture image. fun.

Play around, storage is cheap. learn the manual settings, how changing them works and what that does to the image. from what i read it looks like it has manual settings which will help a lot in learning how to shoot.

If it takes pictures, its sufficient. Many people here still use a P& S camera regularly.

Enjoy learning and the rest will come.

..remember, it's the photographer's skills, and not the camera. Some of the best classic photos of the past were done with a pinhole camera.

The X90 looks like a very capable camera which will allow you to learn a lot about photography.

When you feel like you need something more you will also know more about what will meet those needs.

Good luck!

Ian
PS. Be sure to post that "perfect picture" as soon as you make it.

If it takes pictures, you can learn from it. I have 2 dslrs and my next purchase is going to be a p&s. Don't worry about what kind of camera you have.
I read a lot on here and I learn something everyday. Enjoy yourself!
