The KR is the latest 12.4 megapixel mid-range DSLR from Pentax.
The K-R body is expected to ship for no more than $799; a one-lens kit w/18-55mm will cost $849, a two-lens kit w/18-55mm & 50-200mm will cost $899, and a two-lens kit w/18-55mm & 55-300mm will cost $999. Below are improved features of the KR over its predecessor, the K-x: • Three stylish color choices include traditional black, the new classic white, and PENTAX red reflect any owner’s personal style. • Large 3 inch LCD with 921,000 dots of resolution. • Faster high speed 6 FPS framerate that captures 25 images in a single sequence. • A maximum 1/6000 second shutter speed. • Viewfinder focus point indicator. • Improved in-camera HDR image capture including a Night Scene HDR mode. • High sensitivity 100-25600 ISO range with improved noise performance from the new 12.4 megapixel CMOS sensor. • Versatile dual-power-source design, which offers the choice of either a rechargeable lithium-ion battery or four AA-size battery power (using optional AA Battery Holder D-BH109). • Infrared data transfer compatible with the IrSimple™ high-speed infrared data transmission system for wireless data transfer to the web or other IrSimple-compatible devices (includes a match-game between two PENTAX K-r’s). Read more at: Pentax K-r Camera Reviews and Specifications - PentaxForums.com I guess not a whole lot of discussion about the K-r over on the Pentax forums (most likely because everyone is all abuzz/a-bash over the K-5) but I'm super amped about this! Debating whether to get this as a Birthday, Hannukah, or Xmas present for myself (all of those things happen right around the same time of year for me ha!)...hmmm...

I already posted this info about 6 threads down. In fact, you commented in that thread. But yes, it looks to be a great camera that builds on the strengths of the k-x while addressing the complaints customers had regarding the focus points and such. If it were weather sealed, had 2 control wheels and more exterior switches for meter/focus modes (in other words, the k-5), I would be getting one.

lol
it looks like a great camera. control layout with command dials is pretty similar to nikon.. never noticed that before. the AF button looks like its in an awkward place?.. maybe it just takes some getting usedto.

i'll be curious to see how this model sells... at that price point it's occupying a lot of overlap with used higher end models (K7 and to a lesser extent dumped k20), and of course the ridiculously cheap Kx... given how little most hobbyists will care about the improved ISO capability.
As you alluded to, this camera has been a non-factor as I re-evaluate my line up of bodies. The K-x fits nicely in there as a 3rd body and is roughly half the price. Admittedly I haven't researched this model much at all, so is there a particular role it's filling that others cannot? I understand the improved ISO inherent with the new Sony sensors over the 20 & 7's , but still... it would be a hard sell for me |
