Default Chinese Lantern Exhibit- Dallas Texas

What a cool weekend trip to Dallas to see my son and grandson. We did Christmas as the grandson will go with his mother to Argentina to visit other grandparents for Christmas. I could have stayed at this event for hours happily shooting away, tripod or not. I did want to spend time with the grandson, so I did put the toy down a few times to take in the event through a child's eye.

These displays were bright enough for me to shoot hand held at ISO 400 while maintaining a better than 1:1 shutter speed to focal length. A vast majority of the displays were close enough to use the 17-55 f2.8 non IS, As such, the white long lens stayed in the bag. Thankfully the voice activated camera bag came along. Lol.

This is a must-see if you are ever in the area. Of course, midweek would be best as the crowds would be somewhat smaller.

I cropped this square as I couldn't fit the entire circle of lanterns while laying on my back at 17mm. I needed a full frame body or 10mm glass.

The tail feather lights moved in a pattern, I timed the shutter release to have all the feathers lit. I tried dragging the shutter more to see if I could induce some movement caused by the lights. Without a tripod I couldn't slow the shutter enough and maintain a sharp image.
