Default Aquarium glass?

Hello all,

So I'm planning on taking a trip to a local aquarium but I'm not quite sure how to prepare for shooting through glass. Any tips and tricks that'll help me out?

Thanks,
Sam

Getting great shots at an aquarium can be tricky as a result of all the glass and some wacky colour temps with some of the lights.

Here are some great tips that someone else prepared earlier.

Good luck & don't forget to share your results

Great tips on that link

I would only add maybe shoot manual focus if having troubles with auto focus trying to focus through glass.

And in Post Processing if you do get weird colour temps have a quick look at the channels with water sometimes the Red channel looses a lot but the Channel Mixer can do wonders to regain some pictures.

Good luck and have fun

I'd also add that I've found that shooting at an angle rather than straight on at the glass can reduce the possibility of getting any unwanted reflections.

Sam you might try this method for aquarium photography....

1. Bring alcohol based hand wipes to clean the exterior glass, this removes oils and finger prints left on glass from previous admirer's.

2. Cut out a 6"x6" (or larger) square of black heavy gauge paper or cardboard.

3. Cut a circle out of the middle of the square the same size as your chosen lens, I usually use a filter of the appropriate mm for the lens size to get the hole size just right.

4. Clean glass with towelette in the area of your composition and place black square on glass

5. Place camera lens inside hole in black square and press against glass. (focus, meter and shoot)

This method should give you an almost glare free photo
