Default question on focus

I still don't feel comfortable using the manual focus but my camera allows me to manually choose a focus point for the auto focus...that works great when I'm focusing on one specific point but what am I supposed to do when I have several objects that I want to have in focus? I don't trust the auto select point focus but I cannot choose two points for focus at the same time......I'll be taking my toddler on a play date tomorrow and I hope to make some good pics but I still cannot figure out what to do about the focus...please help...

Shoot at a smaller aperture to give you more depth of field.

As Richard said, if you have enough light to do it, try stopping down to f/8 or f/10. (This can be hard indoors, where light is dim.)

Alternately, try moving so that everything you want to be in focus is all the same distance from the camera. This isn't always possible, but it can do a lot for you.
