Can you let us know what type of camera you're using? And whether you have a pop up or hot-shoe mounted flash? That info should help us help you.
![]() To answer your first question about too slow of a shutter, the easiest answer is to increase your ISO. Also, if you're out of other options when using a zoom lens with an aperture that narrows (gets smaller) as you zoom, then not zooming will keep the aperture larger, thereby letting in more light and letting the shutter speed increase. You can then crop out the extra stuff in post. Finally, this tutorial on the "exposure triangle" might be of use. |

In Av mode Canon cameras use the shutter speed to expose for the background, and the strobe to expose for the foreground. The easiest way to get control over your shutter speed is to switch to manual.

On the A200, there's a "flash off" mode on the dial right next to Auto. It has the standard symbol of a lightning bolt with a slash through it. That's the same as Auto but with no flash.
In the P/A/S/M modes, the flash shouldn't go off unless you've popped it up. |
