Default A question about the sun

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me, how to capture a sun without the lightbursts and beams and stuff.
Like this one in a photo by .: D_C :.:

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50 and that photo was shot with the same kind of camera, so I guess it can be done. But what do I need to do? Do I need some sort of filters or something?

I would appreciate any help.
Thanks ^__^

Don't overexpose. The sun is really bright.

Well yes, it is indeed. But I've seen photos where everything else isn't all black. How can I achieve that?

If your trying to capture the whole scene you will notice you can only expose for the sun or the landscape. Ways around this include ND filters but in the case of the sun im not sure how far they would hold it back plus the cost for one with a hight range.

The other alternative is with Post Processing you can take two pictures one exposed for the sun and one exposed for the landscape import them into your editor of choice as two seperate layers and add a layer mask to the top one filled with black. Using a white paint brush paint in the part of the picture on the layer mask you want to blend the exposure with. Or at least its one way

Yeah I figured it would take something like that. Thanks a lot for your input!
