Default Christmas Lights?

We're going to see some christmas lights tonight. I'm briging my camera a long to take some photos, but I don't want to hold everybody up my messin with settings on my camera, so what are some good basic settings for christmas light (at night)? I'd just like a basic idea of where to start. Normally I shoot in Av mode, but wouldn't object to shooting in manual to control aperture and shutter speed. Or maybe I should just shoot in program?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I found out a little bit more. The display we're going to see is indoors. So I don't know if it's going to be light or dark or what. I image they chouldn't make it too dark, but who knows. I guess I'll just have to find out what I'm going to have to do when I get there.

you will probably want to bring the tripod.... then from there, shoot how you are most comfortable...if you like Av shoot in Av -

Thanks for the advice. It didn't end up as bad as I thought it would.

This was at a place with quite a few people and not a ton of room. In some places the hallway was only about 4 foot wide with the trees; not enough room for a tripod and me and other people. I probably could have used my small cheapie tripod ok, but I still really would have been in the way, lol.

I shot about 215 photos, about half of which were kept, and 16 of which made it into photoshop and onto flickr. I'll post some of my results in the Share Your Shot section.

I tried Program mode and it gave me exposure times too long for my to hand hold, so I had to use Av and 800-1600 ISO, the noise doesn't seem to bad.
