I was wondering if anyone had some tips for photographing christmas trees. I'd like to get a unique, good shot of it lit up at night.

Im sure there is a thread around where someone talks about using cardboard to hold up in front of the tree in front of the lens as a physical way to burn the image so your tree lights dont blow out and you get some of the background in. It sounded really interesting and fun heres the link to the thread.
Dodging/Burning *in-camera* for Christmas lights (and others) It may be of some use its just a different way of doing things with you saying unique.

That's pretty cool. I was more or less interested in shooting it with the room dark and just the lights of the tree on. I'm not sure how to go about capturing that magical feeling you get from looking at it. I haven't had time to experiment with it yet, so I was really asking for help with that. Long exposure with low apeture?
