Just got my first dslr a few weeks back

still trying to figure out how to use it properly..

if I shoot in manual, what is the 'standard' setting of just generally takin pictures.. (nothing special)

or should I just revert back to auto? or use P mode..

I've tried P mode, but I dont know which preset settings are right or wrong

There is no normal in manual - it changes with the light and the situation. I would suggest getting the book understanding exposure to point you in the right direction.

Maybe you're looking for the 'Sunny 16 rule'.

I agree with the first poster if your new and have just got your camera check google out a bit and these forums, there is nothing wrong with Auto mode so use Auto or P mode work on composition of your shots and read up and learn at the same time so when you get to AV and TV modes you wont have to think about composition you can pay attention to how th camera is changing things based on your F stop or shutter speed.

The last step would for me be manual mode as that opens up a whole world of debate especialy on meter methods haha but by that time you should know how everything relates
