Default Off camera flash

Hi I would like to use the flash off my camera - how do I power it - is there a device I need to buy to do this?

Speedlights (if camera hotshoe flash is what you meant) are battery-powered. You can move them and they'll still have power. What you're interested in are remote triggers.

Also the Strobist blog will have all the information you need about off-camera flash.

So do you need a certain kind of a flash? I have a flash from a film type Pentax camera - it works on my Nikon D60 so if I use a remote will it work with it?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, it should work as long as you can hook it up to the receiver, and you can hook the camera up to the transmitter. Some triggers attach to the hotshoe, others use a PC connector.
