Question Help : Needed Tips,Ideas,Suggestions for event photography!

Firstly i hope this is the right section. If not I'm really sorry

This weekend my college is having its festival - Onyx.
Theres this photography competition 'Onyx Moments' in which i have to make a PPT of 10 photographs that bring out the best moments of the festival.
This event covers sports, fun events(tug of war,car pulling, balloon race), huge groups(8 teams), gym events, literary events....all this on an open ground with harsh Indian sunlight!
My main questions is WHAT kind or WHAT photos should i take of this event(over 2 days) to perfectly define the whole event - 'Onyx moments'...Should i go for single portrait kind of pictures of people with different emotions/doing different things or group/team photos or people doing tasks in groups. Basically I'm very confused, how do i capture the essence of the event in 10 shots..

As you're in the middle of the event, just take your time and look around. What would make a great photo? Snap away when you see something eye catching
I would think more of the action shots would work for this. Showing people in the middle of events and making sure you get thier facial expressions to show what agreat time they are having
