Taking pictures of a baby with angel wings

I want to take some photos of my baby wearing angel wings. I have an idea of how I would like it to be, but can't seem to make it work.
I have him in his diaper with the wings on, but when I take the photos I can't seem to make it so you can tell he is wearing wings. They all seem to look like just a white mess behind him.
I have tried with a white, blue, and black backdrop. I think the black helped make the wings stand out, but still not what I was looking for.
He is an active boy, so he doesn't sit very long, so I need to be quick.
Does anyone have any suggestions or poses or links to poses? Or lighting suggestions? I have two photo floods with diffusers I set up, and can always do somethings with it in photoshop elements.
Please help.
I would like to try to shoot again tomorrow. (That is when my "help" is available. It takes 3 of us - one to shoot, one to pose him, and one to distract him.)

You may want to try to run him ragged first. Get him good and tired...but not too tired. Just a suggestion. You may want to submit some of your test shots for further suggestions.
