Though this is an old thread, a couple of points...
It's absolutely not true that cropping was (is) not a widely used tool in the darkroom. Nothing has relaly changed, just like most of the rest of the post-click operation digital has made things faster and more convenient. Most DSLRs shoot in a 3:2 format. If you want to print in any other aspect ratio (8x10, 11x14, square format), you must crop. Cropping is just one of many tools in the bag. As lkong as you're happy with the final result, who cares how you got there. That said, if you're relatively new to the DSLR game you may not appreciate having something like only 6MP to play with. I wnat to have as many pixels to work with as possible, so cropping is only done for good reason. |
