Default bit depth

on my camera i set it for 14bit RAW on Nikon.
when i use capture NX or CS3 it says bit depth: 8

am i seeing this wrong or is this something else?

Is it converting your raw and opening it as a JPEG? I dont know how it works as a raw processor but it sounds like it may be.

When you open the RAW file in your editor you can select the bit depth you want to use. in the CS3 example it's at the bottom of the Camera Raw window.

is this when u choose sRGB or Adobe RGB.

I have my camera set for 14 bit but when i check infomation of the pic the Bit depth is 8
is this somethign else or is this just cause the format the cs3 is set for
