Default Sunday Photos, looking for feeback...

http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/DSC_0696.jpg

I like this photo. I like the color/ contrast in the trees etc. It was taken with a very low aperture number, as long as I could get at the MM I was at. Im wondering... should I have done this the exact opposite way? I shot it from a tripod, so I could have used a higher apeture and a longer exposure. How would it have looked?

and... a couple more than I like:

Thanks for any input...

Love the last three - the flare on the 2nd and the motion blur on the last couple are perfect.

You might consider a tighter crop on the 2nd photo as the cars in the distance do nothing for the photo. You might even be able to get a tight vertical crop out of it to accentuate that flare. The DoF is a little shallow in 2nd - only the rear of the red car is sharp, very sharp actually. (could be motion blur - EXIF would help diagnose that one).

The first pic does nothing for me I'm afraid, too much bitumen. A pano crop to get rid of the grey and highlight the beautiful autumnal colours would work.

Hope this is constructive. Top job otherwise!

Great, exactly the kind of feedback I was wanting..

Can you give me advice on apeture settings on a shot like this? High, Low...middle? My lens seems to bring out more contrast with a lower apeture which is what I was going for, but I wonder if it would have been better with a larger number and a longer exposure?

I also took this shot....

To get this car to stand out, I'd be thinking about doing two things, both aimed at getting the background out of focus.

First - I'd be parking the car 10-20m away from the edge of the carpark - put distance between the car and the background.

From an aperture perspective - depends on the focal length of your lens - I'd be thinking a 70mm @ f4.5 would be enough to get the whole car in focus, leaving your background nice & blurry.

Experiment - it's the only way to learn!

Sounds good, I'm going to try the shot with my car in the same position after work!

Thanks for your advice... I tried what you suggested and liked the results. Hopefuly you can give me some more feedback:

One thing I will comment on is... at 70mm, I couldent get have the fstop down to 4.5. I believe mine was something like 5.5. With that said, I tried a couple different things... but I was basicly puting the fstop as low as possible then raised it until the entire car was in focus. I think because I couldent get down to 4.5 at 70, my best shots were at more like 50mm and the fstop was on like 5. Maybe my lens isnt as good as yours?

I see exactly what you were saying though! Thanks!
