Default why pictures get darked at good light?

I use a canon powershot S5 IS camera.
I have difficulties in taking pictures when the light is very good. Pictures get darked for no reason (even at ISO 80-200). Earlier I had no trouble and this started about 2 days back.
I don't have this problem when the light is not that good. I tried a few pics inside my house (ISO 200) and they are OK.
Please note that I have set the ISO to auto mode(actually I tried different settings). Also I have reset the camera settings to their default values
Please advise me what I should do.
Thanx.

why don't you post an example or two with their EXIF data so we can have a better idea of what you are looking at.

Are you sure you're posting the EXIF from both images? They both have the same ISO, same shutter speed and the same aperture. It would be quite the coincidence if they were taken with the exact same exposure while your camera is set to an automatic mode.

It could be that becasue your shutter speed is set so fast that not enough light is getting in

If the EXIF is correct, the camera is set to an automatic mode, the exposure compensation is set to zero, so there should be a properly exposed photo.

My guess is that the 2nd set of EXIF info is from the first photo as well, by accident.

Again thanx for your responses.

EXIF info are correct. Actually I omitted some fields such as file name, files size. I checked again and they are correct. I tried to find two pictures with same EXIF info to illustrate the issue.

As given above shooting mode is "Program AE", but I haven't changed any settings. Therefore we can assume it as the Auto mode.

>> If the EXIF is correct, the camera is set to an automatic mode, the exposure compensation is set to >> zero, so there should be a properly exposed photo.

Exactly that is the my issue as well. When I set exposure compensation to zero image is dark. But if I adjust compensation to +2 I can get a decent image.
I have uploaded two images with exposure compensation zero (IMG_5797) and +2 (IMG_5796) to illustrate further.
Also I have attached another image(IMG_5800). I took this image inside my home. Auto selected ISO is 200. Exposure compensation is set to zero. But see it is much better than the picture I took outside.

Also I noted another thing. Brightness histogram is very skewed with these pictures (ones with I have issues). Always histogram is heavily clustered to the left side.

Could this happen because of a technical failure of the camera?

I highly appreciate everyone's help!!

You could use the "Reset to factory defaults" menu option to, well, reset your camera to the factory default settings. Give that a try to eliminate any setting you may have set and forgot (or set accidentally).

is there any chance that you are using spot metering? I am not familiar with your camera but you may have a choice in how you take light readings. Try zone or matrix or even center wieghted.
