I think that a black and white photography shows the real emotion in a photo.

@Webworld: what are you referring to? you do realise that you're on a photography forum, and discussing black & white vs. colour photography, right?

@draconianstudios: it depends, really. Often I choose B&W for people, or strong textures and lines. Sometimes I choose B&W to mask out a bright, distracting colour. An example:



In this photo, the pastic bag was a very bright blue, the sneakers were also quite distracting. I'm fairly sure there also was something very bright yellow in there. By converting the photo to B&W I removed all those distractions.

Agree with everyone it sets more of feel for the scene in the right pictures. I also find that it captures textures very well old statues and building look great in black and white, as do contrasting colours. Its more about the tone of the colour than the colour its self thats why not all black and white shots look great... but they can look stunning!!
