Default Friday Night Lights

Hello - I inherited a Nikon D70 from my fatherinlaw two years ago and have taken some great daylight shots during that time. I have no background in photography and hate reading manuals so I have learned the hard way. Have lots of footballers in the family and have taken really awesome action shots during daylight hours. Not so at night. I just cannot figure out how to set the D70 to pick up enough light while still maintaining blurr free images. Would appreciate a formula for this. Thanks and regards from an oldcoug

Typically, you need a fast lens coupled with a shutter speed of at least 250. This will require the ISO going up to at least 1600 (I don't know how high the D70 goes). The stadium lighting is also a factor.

For example, I know I need a faster lens...
eyes on the target

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 6400

Thank you Lori. Thats a pretty good pic. I just came across a tutorial at Nikon(http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d70/index.php ) that just taught me a few things. Camera is faster than I thought. Thanks again.

Thank you. I'm certain your exposure, shutter speed in this case, goes faster than 1/60; your main limitation is probably within the lens you are using. What kind of lens is it?

Set your aperture to 2.8, ISO to 1600 and shutter speed to 200 and see what happens.
