Unhappy Pictures too red.

Hey guys just a real quick question.

I'm finding that a lot of my shots at night when I'm trying to take photos turn out to have a really warm red tint to them. I've been working on trying to take a shot of purple halloween/christmas lights and they always turn out far too red as does the area around them.

I'm trying to compensate in photoshop but I can only do so much. I tried the Tungsten white balance but even that wasn't enough. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

I usually have the opposite problem; too blue.

Are you shooting RAW or JPG? And what photo editing program are you using?

Shoot in RAW and you won't have this issue.

Hey, not to drag this OT, but I notice that you have a Nikon, so how do you keep your purples purple and not blue? I have a hard time without a lot of work in ACR to get them purple.

I'm not off topic, it's EXACTLY on topic.

If you have cheap crap lenses, you're going to have big problems with accurate color.

****Edit*** I'm not saying you were OT, I didn't want to drag it OT with my question.

Lenses are Nikon. Although my 18-200vr is not the 70-200 f2.8 like yours. And the macro lens that I use is the tried and true 60mm. Both give me blue shifts to the point that purple violets are blue. I had been told that it is a Nikon thing.

Could be, I have no clue.

Use RAW, set a good WB (this probably is the issue) and fix it in ACR.
